Today’s CCIE Wireless LAN exam is built around two major topics – lab exercises and troubleshooting. The first section of the exam deals with lab exercises in which a candidate obtains Cisco hardware to test performance and functionality. The purpose of these exams is to familiarize a network engineer with common problems and to obtain hands-on experience in troubleshooting and correcting Cisco networking hardware. This lab portion is typically 60 minutes long and students will be provided equipment as needed for completing the exercises.
The second segment of the exam is mostly a series of written sections that describe wireless network operation and troubleshooting techniques. This part of the course schedule is designed to train students to troubleshoot common errors and to perform a variety of maintenance tasks. In the introductory topic, students will learn how to specify a WLAN and how to troubleshoot common problems associated with setting up and configure a WLAN. In the final topic, students will perform a series of laboratory exercises that include configuration of WEP, configuration of access points, troubleshooting for weak or no signal, and identify and reconfigure wireless networks.
The Cisco Wireless Certifications Developer (CDD) course is designed for IT professionals who have at least three years of experience with networking and other CCNA, CCNP, or Ciscogate certifications. This lab course provides extensive labs that include both hands-on practice and testing of real networking situations. Throughout the course, students will work through an assigned set of projects that demonstrate different aspects of wireless certifications. The CCNA Wireless Fundamentals Overview is broken into five main sections – Overview, Application Review, Wireless Networks, WEP and WPA Explained, and Wireless Access with Wi-Fi Explained. The overview provides the student with basic information about the CCNA. It explains the reasons for the CCNA, why it is necessary, and what the exam covers. It walks the reader through the basics of wireless networking, with particular attention to the importance of WEP encryption, WPA security, and the primary protocols that make up WEP. It also goes over basic hardware requirements and the tools needed to complete a basic configuration.
